newborn is supposedly a size, but i think it is more a state of mind. i happened to have had a newborn infant who could not wear the size known as newborn. nevertheless, he was a new as they come. only bigger. 11 pounds and 15 ounces- bigger than my friends’ twin daughters’ birth weights put together! and most definitely preferring 3-6 month clothing and cloth diapers.

i am now going to break my own rule. there shall be newborn size earth huggy diapers, even though i have not had the opportunity to use them on my own child. (my rule has been that i only sell things i have used!) however, i am planning on using these on a few newborn friends i’m expecting in the next few months.

also, i decided to stop depriving myself the cuteness- these are just about as cute as can be, and really, really fun to sew, and arrange in the leaves to photograph, and touch, and balance in the palm of my hand… can you believe an actual human being is small enough to fit inside this diaper?!

this idea had been buzzing around in my head for months, and finally got its day on the sewing machine this past weekend…

i love dragonflies. they are just so magical, and inspire so many possibilities. i’ve written more than necessary about them before… so i will keep this short and sweet! you can check out the details on this new bib here.

the earth huggy organic cotton heffalumps bib, made with harmony art’s let it grow and other fine organic cotton fabrics. this one makes me think of how much more friendly it is with two, or a whole community really. i love learning about life from our fellow animals, and i think we have much to learn from these beautiful creatures! i love the thought of surrounding our children with images portraying nature, and this is just one more attempt at such an endeavor.

i’ve been doing a little updating to the online store, adding in a few new colors to the organic cotton fitted diaper selection, as well as increasing the variety of sizes available (i had not listed mediums in some of the styles, but mediums are now available in many colors.)

by the way, have i mentioned how much i appreciate my customers?!? not only for supporting me and my handiwork, but for prioritizing organic cotton and making small steps towards a healthier planet! earth huggy fitted diapers are made from organic cotton, inside and outside (which distinguishes them from many other cloth diaper manufacturers who choose conventional cotton prints for their exterior fabrics).

i’m more into let it grow than let it snow, i have to admit… thought i’d toss out a few photos of some products featuring perhaps my favorite fabric (that’s a hard thing to choose… but it’s definitely up there on my list!) let it grow from the amazing harmony susulla… please, if you have not checked out this woman’s amazing organic fabric designs, i urge you to do so. she is a pioneer in the industry, and i think she may have been the first ever to offer organic fabrics in actual prints (not just plain old boring solids). and OH the prints! her style is soooo compatible with mine. nature, flow, organic in more than one sense of the word. she has a stunningly appealing website, and an eco-conscious blog chronicling her creative journey, so check her out!

here is the earth huggy baby carrier in let it grow with brown twill…. a variation on the aqua version, which is one of the originals!

and recently i designed a new “heffalumps” bib using scraps of let it grow, some organic cotton ribbon, and inspiration from both winnie the pooh (that’s why i called it heffalumps) and ganesha, remover of obstacles. the trim is also a harmony art fabric, pale aqua organic cotton sateen. the latest in my recent line of bibs, featuring tactile-ly appealing loops and grabby fun for little tiny fingers to enjoy. earth huggy bibs are backed with a layer of organic cotton terry fabric, making them thick and absorbent. they are also machine washable, and you can’t go wrong with organic cotton bibs- organic cotton withstands far more abuse than conventional cotton fabric, since the fibers have not been destroyed in the chemical processing.

as promised, a pink parade for your baby gift buying pleasure! first, let me just say, i will be the last person on earth to proclaim that these items are just for girls. i happen to have a certain young woolly mammoth spearing-soccer ball kicking-fishing in a boat-rough and tumble boy who requests to wear his pink hat and purple woollies whenever the mood strikes (sometimes accessorizing with only paint).

i also fully support choosing a child carrier according to the color preferences of the parent who will be wearing it, rather than the baby who will have his or her eyes closed for most of the first year he or she will be riding in it (though choosing for baby’s preferences is always fine, too!) hence, this new snug as a bug carrier variation (now with brown exterior in case you like that better than the black) is very much a win-win for any gender combination of carrier and carried.

essentially a one-size item, these are perfect for those new-to-food babies who are excited about feeding themselves! large area for catching missed spoonfuls of mush (approximately 12 inches wide), these bibs feature artful appliques on a organic cotton knit backgrounds. the back of the bibs are natural organic terry, giving the bib a nice weight and absorbent capacity and the edges are trimmed with beautiful organic cotton sateen. the snap closure is located on one side for easy accessibility. machine wash and dry. even the embellishments are made from organic cotton.

four styles have been listed, but more will be coming in the next few weeks! the loopy style (shown above, in “calendula”) features organic cotton loops of ribbon, for baby’s developing tactile senses to explore. coming soon- dinosaur loopy bibs and pink ladybugs… stay tuned!
