hello good customers…

i’m going to take a little break from making carriers. i set them all as “out of stock” on the website, but may be open to custom orders on a limited basis in the next few months. do not hesitate to contact me via email, or to peruse the photos on the website to see what you might like to order in the future- they are not going away forever. i will very likely be restocking this section of the shop over the winter months, so fear not! these carriers have been wildly popular (hence, none in stock…) and i want to make sure i am continuing to put my best energy into making them, and this little rest will ensure that.

look for more activity here in the coming months as well… fall and winter are sewing seasons for me, and i always like to share what i’m working on. right now i am gearing up for some fitted diaper and wool longie work, and will be participating in a giveaway for wool week (end of october) on that mama gretchen‘s blog. be sure to get in on the giveaway!

wool longies are amazing alternative diaper covers. they are my hands down favorite, and yes, they even score highest in terms of leak proof-ness! one of a kind items, so for online purposes these are exclusively listing on etsy, (while we’re on the heart theme, heart my shop there and you will get notified when i list more!) with some available at the farmer’s market. while you’re visiting me at the market, feel free to drop off any of your old wool sweaters that are destined for an upcycled life!

after some sweet feedback from a customer at saturday’s opening day farmer’s market, i was inspired to post these recent pictures of the hooded towels i’ve been stocking up on over the winter months. this mama told me she is using her towel every single night for her little one’s bath time, and i am so happy that more and more warm, wet skinned babies (perfect environment for absorbing any chemicals or toxins in conventional/synthetic fabric) are being wrapped in chemical-free, pure, soft goodness. i’ve got these listed both on the online store, and a few listing on etsyas well.

i’ve recently added this feature: a strip of organic cotton ribbon for easy hanging to dry in between uses, because it’s true, you really will use it every day.;)

happy earth day, everyone! earth huggy is celebrating two years in business, and one year since earth huggy’s internet debut! so today i’m celebrating earth and birth and feeling lots of gratitude for abundance.

tomorrow (saturday april 23) we will be celebrating “a billion acts of green” at the oregon coast aquarium’s earth day festivities,  where a mini farmer’s market is being held all day, hoping to raise awareness about sustainability and buying local. click the link above for info on hours and directions, and to find out who else will be there. we are excited to be kicking off our farmer’s market season in this way, and we hope to see you there!

in the spirit of the green bag lady, i have decided i am going to give out only fabric reusable bags at the farmer’s market this year. the past two years, i have given out very few bags at all, as i am blessed to lived in an area where apparently it is cool to remember your bags at the market, but when folks have needed one for a purchase from earth huggy, i have supplied a reused plastic bag… and i just can’t bring myself to do that anymore, even if i had any on hand (i don’t. i have been pretty good about remembering my bags even at fred meyer where it’s apparently not yet the cool thing to do!) so i’ve culled my fabric stash and gathered up all of the horrid prints i found hidden in there, as well as some not-so-horrid ones that i just won’t end up using (these are mainly conventional cotton, some may even be blends, who knows? my stash has been an ongoing beast that has grown more than shrunk, continuously since i was a little girl…

here are some of the bags at their current stage of finishedness, which leads me to think i’ll actually be able to pull this off! some are already finished with handles and everything.

some turned out too cool for me to give away and have been added to my own bag collection (you can’t have too many! or at least i’m nowhere near that imaginary threshold.) like this awesomely loud one, out of an old polyester skirt i no longer dare to wear for reasons more to do with length than the synthetic fiber factor (not that i’ve worn a skirt at all in 5 years…)

and one of the so-called horrid prints actually turned out quite endearing as a horrid seashell print bag, and both quinn and i decided not to part with it. it’s a smaller one, i’ve found those are nice to have around for things like errands to the post office (need a pen, tape, scissors… not much but enough that a bag is helpful).

but you can have the horrid kitty print and the daisy bed sheet number, just come buy something from me on may 7th! opening farmer’s market day should be awesome, it sounds like the newport high band is going to play, and there is going to be an awesome raffle-drawing type thing with prizes contributed by the vendors. and of course, the fresh produce we are absolutely dying for!!! oh yeah and earth huggy, with free bags and lots of organic cotton for your baby.

earth huggy will be attending the local indoor farmer’s market this saturday, march 19th. come by and support your favorite local businesses! we will be setting up in what used to be the dodge showroom, near the corner of highway 20 and highway 101 in the center of newport, from 10am to (i’m pretty sure) 4pm. there have been a few of these indoor markets, and will be more to come before the regular outdoor market returns in may. become a fan of the newport farmer’s market on facebook to keep up with announcements like these!featured this saturday will be some new upcycled wool longies that i haven’t even listed online yet, as well as the new wooden toy selection we are excited to be presenting this year. this is your chance to get your hands on some driftwood blocks in person!

newborn is supposedly a size, but i think it is more a state of mind. i happened to have had a newborn infant who could not wear the size known as newborn. nevertheless, he was a new as they come. only bigger. 11 pounds and 15 ounces- bigger than my friends’ twin daughters’ birth weights put together! and most definitely preferring 3-6 month clothing and cloth diapers.

i am now going to break my own rule. there shall be newborn size earth huggy diapers, even though i have not had the opportunity to use them on my own child. (my rule has been that i only sell things i have used!) however, i am planning on using these on a few newborn friends i’m expecting in the next few months.

also, i decided to stop depriving myself the cuteness- these are just about as cute as can be, and really, really fun to sew, and arrange in the leaves to photograph, and touch, and balance in the palm of my hand… can you believe an actual human being is small enough to fit inside this diaper?!
